Yoni Egg Sizes Explained: How to Choose the Right Size for Your Body and Practice

One of the most common questions women ask before purchasing their first yoni egg is: what size should I start with?

The answer is often surprising.

Most people assume that smaller means easier. In yoni egg practice, the opposite is true.

This guide will explain the three sizes available, who each one is designed for, and how to build a progressive practice over time.

The Three Sizes: Large, Medium, and Small

Yoni eggs at Yoni Wanderland come in three sizes.

Large: 2.5 inches long, with a circumference of 4.75 inches at the widest end.

Medium: 2 inches long, with a circumference of 3.75 inches at the widest end.

Small: 1.75 inches long, with a circumference of 3 inches at the widest end.

These measurements refer to the egg itself. Because yoni eggs are carved from natural crystal, there may be slight variations between individual stones. This is a natural characteristic of working with real gemstones and does not affect their function or quality.

Why Beginners Should Start with Large

This surprises almost every woman who reads it for the first time.

The large yoni egg is easier for beginners because the pelvic muscles can feel it more easily. When you begin a new physical practice, you need feedback. A larger egg provides more surface contact with the vaginal walls, which means your muscles can sense it, grip it, and engage with it much more effectively.

A small egg, by contrast, requires a high level of pelvic floor awareness and control to feel and hold. If you start with a small size before your body has developed that awareness, the egg may fall out frequently, which can feel frustrating and discouraging.

Starting with large allows you to actually feel and practice with your egg from the very first session.

Who the Large Size Is For

The large size is recommended for most beginners, regardless of age or experience with internal tools.

It is also particularly suitable for women who have given birth vaginally, as the pelvic muscles may have experienced stretching and need to rebuild tone and awareness. The larger size gives more to work with during the recovery and strengthening process.

Women who experience pelvic floor laxity or symptoms such as mild urinary leakage may also find the large size most effective for building functional strength.

Who the Medium Size Is For

Once you have been practicing with the large egg for several weeks or months and you can hold it comfortably, squeeze it with control, and feel it clearly during your exercises, you are ready to progress to medium.

The medium size requires more precision and awareness. Your muscles have to work harder to grip and hold it, which builds finer control over time.

The medium is also appropriate as a starting size for women who have strong pelvic floor tone and a good body awareness, or for those who have already had some experience with pelvic floor training such as pilates or regular kegel practice.

Who the Small Size Is For

The small yoni egg is an advanced tool. It is the most challenging to feel and hold, requiring a high level of pelvic floor sensitivity and control.

Most women reach the small size after several months or longer of consistent practice. This is not a race. Progressing slowly and listening to your body is far more beneficial than rushing to a smaller size before your practice is ready.

The small egg is excellent for refining sensitivity, practicing subtle contractions, and deepening the energetic aspects of the practice.

Building a Progressive Practice

A well-designed yoni egg journey might look like this:

Months one through three: Large egg, two to three times per week. Focus on basic contractions, breath awareness, and learning to feel the egg inside your body.

Months three through six: Introduce the medium egg. Alternate between large and medium. Begin exploring movement practices with the egg inserted.

Month six and beyond: Incorporate the small egg for refined sensitivity work. Use all three sizes with intention, choosing based on what your body needs that day.

There is no fixed timeline. Your body will tell you when it is ready to progress.

Drilled or Non-Drilled?

Both sizes come in drilled and non-drilled options.

A drilled yoni egg has a small hole through the narrow end. You can thread a piece of unwaxed dental floss or a natural cord through this hole, creating a retrieval string similar to a tampon. This is particularly helpful for beginners who want the reassurance of being able to pull the egg out easily.

A non-drilled egg has no hole and relies entirely on your own pelvic awareness and gentle bearing down for removal. Many experienced practitioners prefer non-drilled eggs for their simplicity and energetic wholeness.

Both options are equally safe when used correctly.

A Note on Drilled Egg Care

If you choose a drilled egg, the hole requires extra attention during cleaning. After washing with mild soap and water, use a small brush or a pipe cleaner to clean inside the drilled channel. Residue can accumulate there if it is not cleaned thoroughly, so this step is important for hygiene.

Which Size Should You Buy First?

If this is your first yoni egg, we recommend starting with the large size.

If you want to have a complete practice from the beginning, purchasing a set of all three sizes gives you everything you need to build a progressive, evolving practice over time without having to order separately as you advance.

At Yoni Wanderland, all of our yoni eggs are available in large, medium, and small, in both drilled and non-drilled options, made from 100% natural GIA-certified crystals.
